Fabienne Rivory (France) - Labokoff | Miroir (2013)

Fabienne Rivory is an artist and photographer based in Paris. Since 2007, Fabienne explores in the project “Labokoff” interactions between photography and painting, real world and imagination, memories and reality. Built around photographs that are picked in her personal collection, her images are painted with gouache or ink, employed as textures, splatters or lines, that shifts the images in a dreamy register. These are dreamed images trying to recreate a momentary emotion that anyone can feel in front of nature’s beauty, a particular architectural shape, a landscape passing by or the silhouette of a beloved one.

Lesley Oldaker explores the transient nature, purpose and interconnecting relationships of random moving figurative groupings and their interaction with the space around them. Expressing a personal response to co-occupying the space communicates a sense of displacement and a question of belonging and relevance within that space. The work originates from drawing, photographic and printing studies, which enables the abstraction of the essence of form, space and colour for the paintings. Initial washes of inks and acrylics create the sense of structure, negative space and perspective. Oil paint, the main medium, communicates more desirably the sense of continual movement and fluidity of the form within the work. Painterly mark making, limited colour pallet and a large canvas enhances the suggestion of mood and place, creating a more engaging visual experience and encourages the viewer to explore further, the form and space of the painting. Eric Cahan | on Tumblr (USA) - Sky Series

Several focal points define the work of New York-based artist Eric Cahan. Among them: light, specifically the light generated by the sun at sunrise and sunset, science, nature, and the ephemeral quality of memories. These considerations are in play when, equipment in tow, Cahan heads outside at a carefully chosen hour of morning or evening to begin creating one of his flawless, ethereal works of art. Cahan himself made most of the work for his current project, Sky Series, during his extensive travels. Each photograph and sculpture is titled with the time and location of its conception. In this way, Cahan catalogues his visual journal. “ During my travels, I discover what I want to document. My works are titled to remind me of the experience, both visually and spiritually.” Cahan’s viewers see in his work his unique interpretation of a specific time and place.
